You have an amazing idea about a business you want to start and you can’t wait to be your own boss.
Unlike everyone else who’s afraid to take a risk, you know that giving your dream a chance will open your world to great opportunities - being more proud of yourself, getting higher profits (as opposed to a regular job), and having more creative freedom and time for family.
How do you really know that you’re ready to run your own company? Below is a list of telltale signs.
Some people, especially Millenials, feel that they’re just not meant for a 9-5 desk job. You know you’re not like others who wouldn’t mind going to a regular office for the rest of their lives and having to adapt to a company culture. You feel dissatisfied because you have great ideas and strategies and you can’t let them out because you’re stuck in a cubicle.
Your legacy is the thing you’ll be remembered for - something which you’ll be passing on to your children when you pass away. The business you build can be your legacy that will benefit your family. It is a fact that people feel more motivated and empowered to work on something they know will live on after them.
Every entrepreneur has to be prepared to face risks in order to achieve something. Common areas that can be at stake when creating a business include but are not limited to personal finances, health, and time. However, you don’t see these risks as a major disadvantage. By identifying possible challenges you may encounter, you’ll be able to plan and prepare for them.
While a lot of articles tell us that having supportive friends and family is important to building a business, we need to understand that some people who want to become entrepreneurs don’t always get the support they need. You are ready to build a business if you are more self-reliant because you know that “support” is not within your control. Though others may help, you understand that the majority of your success depends on your attitude - how you take responsibility for your future.
You cannot build a business without any investment. Some entrepreneurs start with little investment while others the opposite. The amount of money you spend depends on your estimation of your business’ startup costs. However, be careful about being too optimistic because that can make you prematurely spend more than you should.
Would you believe that value is in the eye of the beholder? The degree of importance of your business is independent of its nature. You have a personal reason why you want to start it and that reason makes that business more meaningful to you. Is the reason to have a better standard of living? To help others in need?
While your co-workers aim to finish work early, you are giving all your best to help the company you work for move forward - even if it means working overtime. This is a sign that you have a strong work ethic. You possess good principles and believe that hard work pays off. Having the discipline, dedication, and patience to get what you want is important in running a business.
If this year is a year of push for you, then start being your own boss! Build a brand you love and can be proud of. This list may not be exhaustive, but it will get you started. Good luck!
