Successful and highly effective entrepreneurs will say that how we start our mornings and what we feel during this time of the day greatly influences what happens onward. Everyone else in my solopreneur social circles agrees with this as well.
If we’re grumpy the moment we wake up until we leave our homes, we’ll also feel the same negativity once we arrive at our offices until clock-out. That’s why we all devised routines based on how we want to feel as we take on tasks in running our business.
In this list, you’ll find various morning habits you can adopt for work productivity. Some will make you more energetic, others can make you calmer, and there are also tips that can motivate you. Read on to discover what they are!
The act of stretching right after getting off your bed increases your blood flow and helps your body get into “active mode” for the day. It also releases tensions and pains from sleeping that will hinder your focus on completing tasks.
If stretching jumpstarts your circulatory system, taking deep breaths will do the same for your respiratory system. Another benefit of deep breathing as a morning routine is that it helps you manage your stress from yesterday and calms you down for the present.
Productivity starts when you wake up. By making your bed after stretching and taking deep breaths, you’re able to motivate yourself in seeking more accomplishments. As a result, you’ll start a chain reaction of getting tasks done at home and work.
The purpose of this routine is to invite positivity to your day through spiritual and psychological exercise. When you think and write about the non-material things you’re happy to have early in the morning, you’ll avoid feeling dreadful and stressed caused by the problems of yesterday.
This morning routine is another way to motivate yourself into being more productive. By visualizing scenarios or things that would bring happiness throughout your day, you can turn them into plans and rewards that you can look forward to.
For example, if eating out with your family or going to the beach would make your day interesting, you can make them part of your day’s agenda. And in order for that to happen, you’ll motivate yourself to focus on getting tasks done in your office so you can clock out early.
To meditate isn’t just about sitting in silence for hours. There are other forms of meditation like yoga where you combine stretching and breathing patterns. Praying for 5 minutes is also a form of meditation. For other business owners, their meditation style is enjoying a cup of coffee or tea while greeting the morning sun - one effective way to detach themselves from their thoughts.
Drinking warm water especially with lemon juice will jumpstart your metabolism, flush out toxins, and boost your immune system. This is why those who immediately drink a glass of water after waking up feel more energized in morning preparation and facing their day.
Speaking of being energized for work, a morning exercise will also increase your energy levels and boost your focus and optimism. Your morning workout doesn’t have to be running a few kilometers in the neighborhood. Jogging in place, doing jumping jacks, and push-ups are enough to pump you up within 5 minutes.
Morning routines will never be formed if you wake up late. As much as possible, you should also adopt healthy sleeping habits. Start by finishing dinner early, avoiding stimulants and inhibitors, putting your gadgets away an hour before bed, hitting the sack before 10 pm, and striving to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night.
